Hot Chocolate | Guarantee Green BlogNothing is more warming than a nice cup of hot chocolate. This year, skip the processed packet mixes and opt for an old fashioned, home made hot chocolate with this super simple hot chocolate recipe. It’s so easy to make, and delicious to drink, that you’ll never go back to powdered mixes again.

Ingredients:

  • 3 ½ cups milk
  • 1/3 cup boiling water
  • ½ cup half and half cream
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (baking cocoa)
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions:

Mix together the cocoa powder, sugar and salt then gently mix them into a saucepan with the boiling water. Simmer the mixture for about two minutes, and don’t forget to stir to keep the mixture from burning.

Stir in the milk, and heat the mixture until it’s just about to boil (but don’t boil). Remove the pan from the heat and then add the vanilla extract and cream.

This recipe makes four yummy cups of home made hot cocoa. Top with mini marshmellows or whipped cream, and enjoy!
