Make Your Own Taco Seasoning

Posted by on May 3rd, 2012

Taco Close UpGetting in the spirit of Cinco de Mayo and Mexican heritage calls to mind America’s favorite Mexican dish, Tacos! Companies like Ortega and Old El Paso make wonderful taco kits that are easy for the whole family, but the sodium in their taco seasoning far exceeds what the USDA recommends we eat in an entire day!

Tacos are a super healthy mean when done right, so follow this recipe for a simple, home made taco seasoning.

You’ll need:

  • ¼ cup unbleached flour
  • ½ cup dried onion flakes
  • 1 cup chili powder (more or less depending on how spicy you want it to be)
  • 1 teaspoon dried minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons dried cumin
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt

Mix the ingredients by putting them all in a jar, closing the lid and giving it a good shake. A half cup of this mixture is the same as one packet of pre-made taco mix. This healthy mix tastes better than any store bought seasoning with no danger to your health.
