DIY: Light-bulb Christmas Tree Ornaments

Posted by on December 13th, 2011

Making your own Christmas ornaments is a great way to go green this Christmas. Christmas tree ornaments made out of old light bulbs make wonderful gifts, and are a great activity for kids ages five and up.

Start by collecting burnt out light bulbs throughout the year. Next you will need decorations! For the talented artists out there, try painting the faces of your favorite Christmas characters, or animals (hint: penguins are light bulb shaped).

For those of us that are less capable artists, you can paint your light bulb a solid color, and then decorate with glitter. I used a glitter pen to write the names of all my nieces and nephews for an added personalized touch. Googly eyes, also known as wiggly eyes, make for super fun additions to your ornaments.

To hang your home made ornaments, tie a bit of ribbon in a loop and glue to the top of the ornament. Be sure to use craft glue or a hot glue gun for this so that you beautiful new ornaments don’t wind up on the floor.
