How to Stay Hydrated

Posted by on April 17th, 2012

Drinking enough water is not only necessary for our health, but staying well hydrated has many positive side effects. However it’s not always easy for people to drink enough water. With soda, juices, coffee and tea readily available, and so much tastier, many people drink all day long but are still dehydrated. So what, besides water, helps us hydrate?

Fresh fruits such as citrus and melons, are a great source for water in our diet, with watermelon in the lead. Packing a snack of cut up watermelon to a picnic with help make sure that no one dehydrates.

Vegetables come in a close second, with celery, cucumbers, tomatoes and romaine lettuce up top. A big, healthy salad does more than keep off the pounds, it also adds to your water intake!

Other foods, such as oatmeal, soup, yogurt or fruit smoothies are also great for hydrating .

Especially as the weather warms up, it’s more and more important to drink water. If you can’t stand the taste of plain water, try adding fresh mint to a bottle of water and letting it sit for about half an hour. Squeezing a slice of lemon is a common way to add flavor to water, or if you want to get very creative, leave a few slices of cucumber in a bottle of water overnight.

No matter how you choose to get water into your body, the important thing is staying hydrated. Cheers!
