Prevent the Flu With Green Cleaning

Proper cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces is the best way to eliminate the spread of cold and flu germs. Green cleaning products can be expensive, and sometimes get a bad rap for being less effective, but the truth is that you can make your own high powered disinfectant with simple, green, non toxic products that you already have in the home.

White, distilled vinegar kills 99% of bacteria, 82% of mold and 80% of germs and viruses, and it’s 100% safe for your health and the environment. To make a powerful cleaner fill a spray bottle with distilled white vinegar, water and lemon juice.

Spray high use areas often, such as doorknobs, telephones, keyboards, remote controls and light switches to name a few. Instead of spraying and wiping, wait about 10 minutes before wiping surfaces. Some germs are more resistant and take a longer time to die. Try walking around the home spraying surfaces, and when you’re done go back and wipe them all down.

Microfiber cloths are a bit more expensive, but if you’re goal is to kill germs then it’s a worthy investment. Unlike most clothes that tend to spread germs around, microfiber cloths absorb up to 95% of bacteria or germs on any surface and traps them.

Preventing against cold and flu germs means more than cleaning, it means cleaning smart.
